amsterdam, nl: 12 months ago we concluded a series of experiments with a test subject named ben penn. a year on, we decided to repeat this experiment at his tilburg base. once again, the results were startling.

limited repress! for the third mouche release dutch artist ivano tetelepta has invited some of his closest friends to create not less than four fantastic dub infected and hypnotic grooves. his ep also marks the third edition of the so called -ivano tetelepta & friends--series. it all started with a record on highly acclaimed label fear of flying a few years ago and continued on rue de plaisance in 2016. now ivano brings out the third part on mouche. on the record he collaborates with the likes of ben buitendijk, tom liem, jocelyn abell and steven siwalette.

the 4th edition in the acclaimed sterns edits series sees curator ben gomori open up the sterns music catalogue to other keen re-editors with brownswood / worldwide genius smbd (aka simbad) the first to step up to the plate. nigeria s segun adewale is sometimes referred to as the crown prince of jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which he called yo-pop. a mixture of jùjú, funk, reggae, afrobeat and jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record ojo je , where both these originals are taken from. smbd delivers too superb flips of the title track a gritty funk-fuelled disco version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. gomori, meanwhile, takes the haunting atewo-lara ka tepa mo se for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip. the stunning artwork comes from kofi ankobra, the son of radical white south africans who grew up in ghana and studied art at oshogbo, nigeria the place adewale himself was born. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and londons ben gomori.

kvest is a dj/producer from bosnia and herzegovina, who has previously released only digital ep s. now, his first vinyl release comes in a form of pure minimal deep techno sound. this ep includes 2 original mixes in which the synth sounds are diffused through light movement and gentle variation, as well as two awesome remixes. one of the remixes is by a young dutch producer kevin arnemann, who runs his own label taped artifact, and has performed in big techno festivals such as ade and awakenings. another remix comes from the owner of kin-ben label, the human & assets. this is the 7th vinyl release on the label.

synthesis records is a techno music label orchestrated by dj pepo one of the greatest exponents of the spanish techno and with which he returns to his origins more techno to give us his more personal point of view, counting on young talents in the production as well as great artists of international scene. here is the 15th release, but the very first vinyl release for the label.... certainly not the last!

london based artist ben vince is best known for his minimal & transcendent saxophone soundscapes. with assimilation we find ben treading new ground with his recorded output, moving away from the limitations of solo saxophone, instead embracing collaboration and communication to forge new paths. whilst vince’s sax work still undeniably holds ‘assimilation’ together, the new territories explored by working with an artistically diverse range of collaborators allows new life and influence to flow through ben’s work. the album features collaborations with micachu (mica levi), rupert clervaux, merlin nova, valentina magaletti, and cam deas. ben vince has also recently collaborated on a 12inch with joy o (forthcoming on hessle audio).

sterns edits returns after their well received and recently repressed amadou balake excursions, this time with ben gomori turning his hand to guinea for a third instalment in the series of re-works from the sterns music catalogue of african gems. balla et ses balladins were one of guinea s national orchestras formed as a result of the newly elected president, sekou toures authenticite policy of the early 1960s, which sought to promote guinea s cultural identity following independence from france in 1958. gomori takes the scalpel to two cuts recorded during their years on the state-run syliphone label, making good use of bandleader balla s lively trumpet playing. the gently haunting nyo is taken on a stomping slo-mo chug with a head-nodding bassline and stuttering fx creating a shimmering effect on the tropical guitars, while the rousing horns of wilikabo are laid over with rasping synth bass for a punchy juxtaposition. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

a uk techno powerhouse returns to bass culture for their 55th release, bringing the ruckus with four deadly cuts that combine killer beats with powerful bass and a high level of production, as you might expect from d julz s respected label. ben sims appears under his ron bacardi alias with a follow up to 2015 s debut release, rock your body/first effort . much like the first ep, sims new release is fired up and ready to deliver its potent energy to the dance floors of the world.on the a side we re met with windy city , which kicks things off in frenetic style, its slamming beats colliding with the layers of analogue to produce a rather chaotic start to proceedings. this is followed by ready for action a tough, bouncing cut featuring a delectable female vocal which really sets things off nicely.the flipside continues in a similar vein as one left in the chamber brings a smooth vibe, though with the emphasis still on the percussive side of things. sims flexes his production muscles across all four tracks here, injecting the music with his years of experience on the road and in the studio. the last track is a beats mix of ready for action , highlighting the focus on beats, beats and more beats, adding an extra touch to an already powerful track. this is music par excellence from an artist who is a consummate professional, enjoy!

after a successful release with church recordings at the start of the year ben hauke returns to his label woop records for a five track ep , first takes. first takes ep combines the sounds of broken beat and house music with a strong nod to 90s hip hop throughout. ben is cementing his own sound and approach to music through his eclectic sampling of jazz records detailed drum sequencing and no nonsense attitude

systemrmx01 is our first full remix release consisting of five tracks reworked from any of the previous releases. we took a unique approach on this project and made all parts from all tracks available to mix and match as the artists saw fit. heavy hitters ben sims, dustin zahn, and drumcell all contributed great interpretations. enjoy!

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

this project is a cutout t of the prescription underground sound. the 3 cuts written and produced by chez damier and ron trent. morning factory , reworked edit k by: bs as deep, with ( love is the message) and (i come here to be happy) by: kai alice (dj friendly idiots). the new cut on this recording is a demo version from the h2h (chez damier and ben vedren) , berlin nights in paris a track inspired from the prescription record days .this project has a rare quality and would be a great accent to any record collection.

on this record ben sun presents an old style lp format - 40 minutes of moods and grooves interwoven with an intimate story, of individuals struggling to live freely in a time of oppression. after a sultry jazz opener where the characters are introduced, the lp kicks off with a sweet and slow soul track in work again, underpinned by a rotating acid bass. third comes salty tears, the underground disco floor-filler (original limited 12 version) finding a second home on vinyl. your camera and monday usher in some moody rhythms to complete the first side. sin casa opens the flip with some minor-blues improvisation that gives way to a spacious deep house jam, where the protagonists emerge again. still missing shows deeper shades of a eurobeat style - an emotionally compelling club tune that sounds somewhere on the italo side of 1980s manchester. the story comes to a conclusion with cowardice, and the casual jazz-house sounds of mamans lover. killer album!!
